Frank McAvennie thrilled by West Ham win v Newcastle

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie has hailed West Ham United after their 4-2 win over Newcastle in the Premier League opener.

Aaron Cresswell, Tomas Soucek, Said Benrahma and Michail Antonio got the goals the Irons picked up where they left off last season.

McAvennie admitted that the freedom that the Hammers played with was “incredible” at St James’ Park, and wants to see more.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said, “It certainly was.

“Everyone did their job, it was incredible. I thought West Ham controlled the game, they were given a lot of freedom.

West Ham

Incredible.

Despite conceding early, and going behind for the second time in the game – there was never a massive worry regarding the result.

Moyes will have got stuck into his side at half-time, and that gave them the boost they needed to kick on and dominate in the second half.

It looked easy in the end, and it should have been a much bigger margin but three points is more important than the performance at this stage of the season.

We will have a much bigger test against Leicester on Monday, and it is time to prove ourselves once again.
