Frank McAvennie thrilled by West Ham turnaround of Said Benrahma
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie has been stunned by the turn in form of West Ham United winger Said Benrahma this season.
The Algerian admittedly struggled after arriving from Brentford last summer, but he has come into his own during this campaign so far.
McAvennie believes that Benrahma was losing the balls in the wrong areas at first, but he has turned it around by relishing the challenge of becoming that flair player for the Hammers.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said, “Listen, the talent is showing through.
“What was happening at the beginning was that he was losing the ball in the wrong places, and I spoke to him and he said that he doesn’t mind him being the flair player as long as it’s the right areas.
“I think there was a time and a place, and Benrahma is relishing it.”

Turnaround.
Benrahma has already trebled the number of goals he scored last season this year in 24 less appearances too.
With Michail Antonio also firing, his assist total looks set to be beaten as the campaign goes on, and that is exactly what David Moyes will have wanted.
After the big fee may have been questioned at points last season, watching Benrahma thrive and start every single week now is becoming a joy.
Getting on the ball in more dangerous areas is key to that as McAvennie mentions, as it gives him more freedom and less concern of losing the ball in those dangerous areas.
Moyes has managed this one perfectly, and Benrahma is only going to get better and better as time goes on.
