Frank McAvennie still wants West Ham to sign new striker despite Michail Antonio brace
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie still wants to see West Ham sign a new striker before the transfer window closes despite Michail Antonio bagging a brace against Leicester on Monday.
Antonio, 31, is David Moyes’ only recognised striker in the senior squad but is known to be prone to injuries.
He’s also developed into a striker in recent years having started off his career as an attack-minded right-back.

Antonio has three goals and two assists in his first two Premier League appearances but McAvennie still feels Moyes needs another option in his attack.
“Considering he’s not a striker, the boy has done wonders,” McAvennie told West Ham Zone.
“We’re on top of the league but I’m still a wee bit hesitant because I think we’re still a bit light.
“[The lack of options] up front bothers me so we need to get someone in because if Antonio gets injured, all the good work he and the team has done [will be undone].
“I still believe that if Antonio and [Declan] Rice didn’t get injured last season, they would have made the Champions League spots.”
Sebastien Haller was sold to Ajax in January but Moyes has not signed a new striker since.
Several centre-forwards have been linked with moves to the London Stadium before the summer transfer window closes on August 31.
However, Moyes admitted earlier this month [Evening Standard] that he won’t sign a new striker simply for the sake of it.
In other West Ham news, David Gold was blown away by this player’s “fantastic” display against Leicester.
