Frank McAvennie reacts to recent Tony Cottee-PAI Capital news amid potential West Ham takeover
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie has suggested PAI Capital may look to buy the London Stadium outright if they are successful in their pursuit of taking over West Ham.
The British-based consortium’s attempts to take control of the east London club have been well documented in recent weeks and months.
They have drafted in a host of big-name personalities and ex-footballers to boost their bid despite an insistentce from David Sullivan that a takeover was not welcome.

Anton and Rio Ferdinand are two high-profile figures to put their names to PAI Capital, and ex-Irons striker Tony Cottee followed suit towards the end of August.
McAvennie, his former striker partner at Upton Park, has delivered his verdict after he was asked about Cottee’s involvement and various press releases.
“I’m reading between the lines but it looks like they’re going to buy the stadium,” McAvennie told West Ham Zone.

“I mean, [David] Gold and Sullivan should be doing that anyway. I love West Ham to bits but it’s not a football stadium, it’s more like a hotel. There are leaks in the wall and all that, it’s not right. When it’s athletics, we don’t want to see footballers up there in an athletic stadium, it’s just silly.
“I would love to see, whether it’s Gold and Sullivan, or this consortium, to buy the stadium and make it into a proper football stadium. It may have to be done gradually but buy it first and make it your own.”
In other West Ham news, the Irons made a deadline-day dash to dump this attacking duo.
