Frank McAvennie reacts to £400m West Ham takeover bid

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie believes interested parties will have to pay at least £500million to tempt David Gold and David Sullivan into selling West Ham.

The Daily Mail reported last week [20/07/21] that co-owner Sullivan had rejected a £400million bid by a group of UK-based investors who want to buy the east London club.

Sullivan expanded on the reasons for the rejection of the offer in an interview with BBC Sport, insisting that the bid was “derisory” and that there is “no desire to sell the club”.

Ex-Irons attacker McAvennie believes fans would be happy to see the back of the GSB reign, but suggested prospective bidders will have to raise the recent offer by a nine-figure sum.

“I would think that the fans would be happy if someone came in and took over,” McAvennie told West Ham Zone.

“Gold and Sullivan are not going to sell for the sake of it, but would the fans be happy to see them gone? Yeah, I think they would, that’s probably the mood of the fans.

“£400million? They’re a London club but they don’t own their stadium, that’s the biggest problem.

“I would think Gold and Sullivan would be looking for around £500million because of the London factor and the potential to do things.

“They’ve put money in but haven’t been forthcoming with the fans, keeping them at arm’s length, and that’s the biggest problem.
