Frank McAvennie reacts as West Ham appoint David Moyes’ son to scouting team
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie believes David Moyes may have pulled off a blinder after appointing his son to the West Ham backroom staff.
The Daily Mail reported last week that, as part of a summer revamp, West Ham boss Moyes had added his son, David Moyes Jr, to the Irons ranks.
Moyes Jr has joined the scouting team at the London Stadium, with more key appointments expected as the Irons boss stamps his authority following the signing of a new three-year deal at the club.

Ex-Irons forward McAvennie suggested it could be a savvy bit of business from Moyes and the club.
He told West Ham Zone: “I look at the players now and I know everyone that comes through the door now is a David Moyes player.
“[He’s stamping his authority now] Of course he is.
“David Moyes’ son, if he comes in, he’ll know what kind of player his dad wants and what sort of player he is looking for, he’ll have grown up in his dad’s shadow and gone to games with him.
“I think he’ll be able to pick the right player. It might work out really well.”

Fingerprints over the club
There was a sense that Moyes had a lot to prove when he returned to West Ham in 2019 for a second spell in charge at the club, but if anything, it’s the other way around now.
The Scot’s stock wasn’t exactly high when he was re-appointed as boss following Manuel Pellegrini’s sacking, and there was an air of derision among some supporters that the club had seemingly taken a backward step.
However, after guiding the club to safety during the 2019/20 campaign, Moyes launched an assault on the European spots that led to a sixth-place finish and Europa League qualification last season, and now he’s really asserting his influence at the club.
In other West Ham news, the Irons want to sign this ‘Extraordinary’ Premier League striker amid Sky Sports exit claim.
