Frank McAvennie reacts as Lukasz Fabianski issues West Ham contract claim
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie would be happy to see West Ham reward Lukasz Fabianski with a new contract after the Polish goalkeeper’s recent comments.
Fabianski, 36, told Meczyki this week that there have been “preliminary talks” over extending his Irons stay, and that he hopes for a “good solution” for both sides.
The ex-Arsenal shot-stopper remains David Moyes’ number one despite the arrival of World Cup winner Alphonse Areola during the summer, with the Frenchman playing the majority of cup games while Fabianski undertakes Premier League duties.

Ex-Irons hero McAvennie is hopeful an agreement will be reached to see Fabianski stay beyond next summer, when his current contract at the London Stadium is due to expire.
He suggests Fabianski could be having a similar impact to that of club captain Mark Noble, even if he is demoted from number one duties next season.
“I would love to see it,” McAvennie told West Ham Zone upon hearing Fabianski’s latest comments on a new contract. “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with keeping players around. He can do a job.

“I guarantee Noble leads the way in training and all that kind of stuff, he’s the captain and doesn’t get a game but he’s there and he’s leading the boys all week. That’s the kind of spirit that West Ham are all about.
“I don’t see a problem with Fabianski. I think they should give him a new contract, goalkeepers go on for a while. They can go on until their forties.
“He deserves another contract. I would think he’ll be wanting to fight for a first-team place next year, so that can only be a good thing.”
In other West Ham news, the Irons want to sign this ‘Brilliant’ £25.3m-rated South-American centre-mid who won a major 2021 tournament.
