Frank McAvennie predicts West Ham v Chelsea clash

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie predicts West Ham to return to winning ways in Saturday’s (3 December) London derby with Chelsea.

The Irons have not tasted victory in the Premier League since before the international break (7 November), when they beat Liverpool 3-2 at the London Stadium.

Since that victory, David Moyes’ side have lost twice (0-1 v Wolves, 2-1 v Manchester City) and drawn once (1-1 v Brighton).

Ex-Irons star McAvennie, however, backs his old club to snap out of that run against Chelsea at the London Stadium.

“It’s a battle of the top boys, it’s going to be a hell of a game,” McAvennie told West Ham Zone. “It’s going to be a good one.

“They’re a different animal now, I don’t fear Chelsea. They’ve got some decent players out injured.

“I would think West Ham have got a good chance. I’m going to go for a 2-1 home win.”

History

The Irons have a decent recent record at home against the Blues.

Chelsea have only won twice in their last seven away trips, with the Hammers tasting victory on four occasions.

Thomas Tuchel’s side, though, are yet to lose a domestic away game all season.

Moyes’ side have lost twice at the London Stadium during the 2021/22 campaign, against Manchester United (1-2, 19 September) and Brentford (1-2, 3 October).

Injured international stars Ben Chilwell, N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic are all expected to be absent from the Chelsea side for Saturday’s clash.

In other West Ham news, UEFA took major financial action over the Irons this week.
