Frank McAvennie predicts West Ham v Brentford scoreline

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie predicts West Ham to emerge as 2-0 winners on Sunday as they welcome Brentford to the London Stadium.

Both sides have enjoyed impressive starts to the 2021/22 campaign, with only one Premier League defeat each in six games, and they will be desperate to maintain that run heading into the October international break.

Brentford are riding high on confidence after last week’s thrilling 3-3 draw with Liverpool, and the West Ham defence will have their work cut out trying to stop former Irons centre-forward target Ivan Toney.

But David Moyes’ side are not short on belief themselves at the moment after three successive victories.

Ex-Irons hero McAvennie is backing his old side to record a win that could send them into the Champions League positions.

“I’m going to go for 2-0 West Ham,” McAvennie told West Ham Zone. “I fancy them, they’re on a roll. They’ve had the Europa League this week, but they’ll beat them.”

The two sides actually met in a pre-season friendly during the summer, with ex-Bees star Said Benrahma netting the only goal of the game.

It could be another tight affair on Sunday with two strong defences.

Last week’s draw with Liverpool aside, Brentford have only conceded twice in the Premier League this season, no mean feat for a recently promoted side.

The Irons, meanwhile, have recorded four clean sheets in their last six games.

In other West Ham news, Simon Jordan has taken a swipe at GSB detractors in a money claim on this Irons ace.
