Frank McAvennie predicts end of West Ham-Jesse Lingard pursuit
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie has predicted that the West Ham United pursuit of Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard is over.
The Irons announced the deadline day signing of Nikola Vlasic for £25million+ after numerous attempts at the former loan star.
McAvennie insisted that Lingard clearly doesn’t want to be at the London Stadium as he would have made the move happen himself.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said, “I think that’s done now.
“Vlasic and Lingard play in the same position but honestly, I don’t want him anymore. He clearly doesn’t want to come here. If he wanted to be here, he would have come.
“He won’t play at Man United, they have just signed Ronaldo. Does he think he’s going to play ahead of Ronaldo? We wouldn’t have signed this Vlasic if Lingard was still an option, it’s over.”

Over.
This would make perfect sense given the months of trying and ultimately failing to make the permanent move happen.
Lingard had the perfect season at the London Stadium in the second half of the campaign, and arguably had the best run of form in his entire career.
Not only that, but it recharged his England international career, something that will quickly slip away should he not start playing frequently at Old Trafford.
With a new contract already reportedly rejected, he can’t truly believe he will be playing every week and this makes it even more baffling.
It is now time for Vlasic to shine at the London Stadium, and make Lingard nothing but a distant memory.
