Frank McAvennie: Jarrod Bowen will not join Liverpool

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Jarrod Bowen will not leave West Ham for Liverpool this summer, claims Frank McAvennie.

The Hammers attacker has been linked with a move to Anfield and The Athletic believe that the Reds could pursue signing him should Divock Origi or Xherdan Shaqiri leave.

Per their reporter James Pearce, he’s an ideal fit for Liverpool in terms of his age, versatility and his playing style – making runs in behind defences and being a direct runner.

However, McAvennie does not see that happening.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said, “No (when asked whether he thinks Bowen will join Liverpool). I do think Bowen’s a wonderful player, but will Liverpool go for him? I don’t know.

“Liverpool have to buy big players. They’re up there. They’ve had a horrible season but they’ve had bad injuries.

“They need a big player and Bowen’s not there for me, at the moment. The fans need to buy in.”

Need him to stay

We need Bowen at the club for all the reasons that Pearce mentioned while breaking the news of Liverpool wanting to sign him.

We’ve had attacking woes all season and should Jesse Lingard not have been there, we probably would’ve finished outside the top six.

However, one player who was there for David Moyes no matter what was Bowen. The former Hull City attacker played in five different positions for the manager and was one of few outfielders to play every single Premier League game for us.

He registered eight goals and five assists and we’re hoping for him to get closer to the 20 figure mark for G+A which is very attainable for the 24-year-old.
