Frank McAvennie hails David Moyes’ West Ham scouts request
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie has backed David Moyes after he reportedly issued a request to add more scouts to his West Ham transfer team.
Alan Nixon, a journalist at The Sun, told followers on his personal Twitter profile last week [20/06/21] that the Irons boss was eager to strengthen behind-the-scenes.
He wrote: “West Ham. Moyes wants to bring in a handful of new scouts for his transfer team. Short in that department.”
Ex-Irons striker McAvennie believes it could be smart business by the Scot, and referenced the success of Czech Republic duo Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal, who joined from Slavia Prague last year, as reasons why Moyes may be looking to expand his scouting network.
“It’s got to be a good move, ” he told West Ham Zone.
“These boys don’t care, they go about their business as great model professionals.
“They live well, they eat well.
“People take it for granted too easily. Some of these boys, like Coufal and Soucek, they’re just magnificent. They enjoy it so much and repay the manager, they’ve got an affinity with him.
“I’m sure he’s already got the wheels in motion.”

Finding value
Too often over the years, we have shelled out huge transfer fees for players that have never been able to justify the outlay.
Our transfer policy has been chaotic at best and we have taken huge hits on expensive gambles that have never paid off.
But there seems to be some intelligence about our dealings nowadays.
Moyes has enjoyed success in the Czech market with Coufal and Soucek, players who came for small fees or on a temporary loan and proved themselves.
They came as hungry players eager to prove themselves and they’ve done just that.
Similarly, Moyes has shopped in the Championship market, recruiting Craig Dawson, Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen in 2020.
The former was still smarting from Premier League relegation with Watford when Moyes swooped in to secure his signature, while Bowen and Benrahma were starring in the second-tier, hoping someone would take a chance on them.
They’ve all shown their willingness to make themselves a success with the Irons, and it’s certainly a marked difference from the prima donnas we used to sign.
In other West Ham news, the Irons have lodged an ‘Important’ bid for this 25-year-old La Liga star.
