Frank McAvennie: GSB prepared to pay big money to keep Declan Rice at West Ham
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie claims GSB are prepared to throw big money at Declan Rice in order to convince the midfielder that his future lies at West Ham.
Rice, 22, has been consistently linked with moves elsewhere with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City repeatedly credited with an interest.
Manchester United are another club that have been strongly rumoured, though the Daily Star reported last week that the Red Devils had ended their interest as they pursue Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips instead.
Rice is unlikely to make an Irons exit until the summer of 2022 at the earliest, and it seems the club will make every effort to ensure he stays for as long as possible.
“Listen, from what I’m hearing the club want to keep him and they’re willing to pay big bucks,” ex-Irons hero McAvennie told West Ham Zone.
“Now, I don’t know if he’s wanting to go somewhere. [But] I think this team, this squad of players, could be challenging for the Champions League for the next two or three years. I think they’ve got a decent squad, keeping everyone fit. They’ll buy more players in.
“From what I’m hearing, the owners are willing to give Declan pretty much on a par with everyone else in England, so that’s a good thing.
“But we’ve got him for this year, just accept it and enjoy him. If he moves on next year, then so be it. He’s a better player than Phillips, I think.”
In other West Ham news, Bianca Westwood is stunned by David Moyes’ transfer admission on this prolific striker.
