Frank McAvennie dumbfounded by West Ham-Jesse Lingard update – Exclusive
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie has been left dumbfounded by there being no permanent option in the West Ham loan deal of Jesse Lingard.
The Manchester United loanee has been sensational at the London Stadium, scoring eight goals and adding three assists in his nine games so far.
The Red Devils reportedly blocked an automatic buy-out clause, and it left McAvennie shocked that the Irons didn’t push to include that further.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said, “I would get him.
“I can’t believe they don’t have the option to buy him, I don’t get that. Why don’t they have that in there?
“I look at him and think he’s enjoying his football, he’s enjoying playing with Declan Rice and all the boys. I think he might want to stay.
“We could even give him Champions League or Europa League football, it’s good for West Ham, London is a great place.”
Shocker.
We are also gutted that there is no permanent clause in this deal.
As we have found though, with Lingard’s performances, Manchester United will be watching and will feel happy that he will be returning to Old Trafford at the end of the season.
The Daily Mail has reported that there is a £30million price-tag on his head this summer, and if the Irons reach the Champions League, it would be a no-brainer.
McAvennie clearly believes with that too, and hopefully, his verdict is shared by Lingard who will want to stay at the club past this season.
