Frank McAvennie defends David Moyes over no West Ham subs v Brentford
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie has refused to condemn David Moyes’ lack of West Ham substitutions during their 2-1 defeat to Brentford on Sunday.
The home side suffered late heartache at the London Stadium as the Bees stung them with a 94th minute Yoane Wissa winner.
Despite four of the starting XI making their second starts in less than 72 hours, following Thursday’s Europa League win over Rapid Win, Moyes decided not to use his bench.

That meant the likes of Nikola Vlasic, Manuel Lanzini and Andriy Yarmolenko remained rooted to the sidelines as the Irons laboured to defeat.
Ex-Irons attacker McAvennie doesn’t think questions should be asked of Moyes, though.
“Maybe there were some injuries and David just didn’t want to try it, I don’t know,” McAvennie told West Ham Zone.

“I’m not going to try and double guess Moysey because he’s been a genius when it’s comes to West Ham at the moment, taking them from where they were to where they are now. I’ll have to start calling him Dynamo, the magician!
“He’s done great, so I’m not going to sit here and say ‘you should have done this, you should have done that’. He’ll know. They just need to move on from it.”
In other West Ham news, the Irons are on a scouting mission for this 22-year-old breakout La Liga star with a ‘very attractive’ release clause.
