Frank McAvennie: David Moyes will take positives from West Ham defeat v Brentford

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie suggests David Moyes will send an important message to his West Ham players after Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Brentford.

The Irons were below-par as the newly-promoted side continued their stunning start to the 2021/22 Premier League season with victory at the London Stadium.

Yoane Wissa’s 94th-minute strike brought up West Ham’s second loss of the campaign to sit them ninth heading into the October international break.

However, ex-Irons hero McAvennie believes it won’t be all doom and gloom in east London.

“Brentford are a good side, we knew that,” McAvennie told West Ham Zone.

“It’s a learning process because it’s not often West Ham get beat, that’s why we’re talking about it.

“I’m sure David will analyse the game. You’ve got to concentrate for 90 minutes. I think that will be the message and if the boys learn from it then it may be a good thing.

“They’ve been on the crest of a wave and getting praised highly, and quite rightly, and something like this comes along so you think ‘take it on the chin and move on and be better for it’.

“I think that’s the positives Moyes will take from it.”

In other West Ham news, the Irons are on a scouting mission for this 22-year-old breakout La Liga star with a ‘very attractive’ release clause.
