Frank McAvennie: David Gold and David Sullivan will give David Moyes summer funds at West Ham
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie believes West Ham will spend money on transfers this summer, but has questioned the lack of activity so far.
The Irons qualified for the 2021/22 Europa League group stages after a stellar Premier League campaign last season where they claimed sixth place.
However, the only new arrival so far this summer has been French goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, who only arrived from PSG on a loan deal last week.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, former Irons attacker McAvennie has called on David Gold and David Sullivan to sell up if they are not planning on securing more reinforcements for David Moyes’ squad before the conclusion of the current transfer window.
“I just don’t get it,” he said. “After such a great season I just hope we kick on.
“If they’re not spending any money, sell up!
“I think they’ll still be very wary of what they’re doing.
“Sullivan and Gold can surprise you sometimes. I think they’ll spend money, though, and they have to give Moyes funds.”

McAvennie is trying to remain optimistic, but it’s hard for supporters to be positive when they’ve seen similar events occur before.
They don’t even have to look too far back – it was only January when Sebastien Haller was sold to Ajax and a replacement striker was not bought to cover his loss.
That left Michail Antonio as the only senior forward at the club, and predictably he got injured for a period.
With more games this season as a result of European qualification, Moyes needs more signings to help cope with the fixture list.
It could be another successful season if the right transfers are made, but it could be a long one if they are not.
In other West Ham news, the Irons want to sign this Euro 2020 centre-mid who broke a top 5 league transfer record in 2017.
