Frank McAvennie ‘can’t understand’ West Ham fatigue claims
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
West Ham United’s very thin squad is being tested like never before this season and the return of the Europa League isn’t going to help matters.
The Irons were drawn against La Liga side Sevilla in the round of 16 having topped their group by a considerable margin before the turn of the year.
The sheer number of games the Hammers have played this season is like nothing they have experienced before and it is beginning to take its toll on the players.

One win in five games is nothing like West Ham form under David Moyes and he may need to rotate even more when the continental competitions restart in March.
Former Irons striker Frank McAvennie can’t get his head around the players’ complaints at playing too often given his desire to play every game during his career.
“When I was playing, this is the time I loved.” McAvennie exclusively told West Ham Zone. “I loved games coming thick and fast.
“But we’re all complaining about it now and I can’t understand it. You’re paid to play football so go and play football. I went and played last night because I love it.
“I hated training, standing about in a field because I wanted to play football.

“The more games I played the better but you’ve just got to manage it better than David Moyes has done.
“These boys are super athletes now and they need a day off. I don’t know if he is giving them days off or not but welcome to the real world, you may get injured, so what?”
The Hammers host Wolves on Sunday in a big game in the race for the top four this season.
In other West Ham news, David Moyes has confirmed one player will miss the Wolves clash through compassionate leave.
