Frank McAvennie calls on David Moyes to change West Ham system
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie has called on David Moyes to change the West Ham system and play two strikers from the start.
The Irons, like most other Premier League sides, tend to field one centre-forward in their formation.
Moyes generally opted for a 4-2-3-1 last season, or a variant of him, while he has also leaned on a five-man defence.

The experienced Scot only has Michail Antonio as a senior striking option in his squad, but the Irons are expected to sign a new forward this summer after failing to replace Sebastien Haller in January following his move to Ajax.
Former Irons attacker McAvennie, speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, has suggested that if a new striker is indeed signed, then Moyes should look to implement two strikers in his starting XI.
“If he’s not injured [Antonio] then play with a two, it would be great to see that again at West Ham. Two strikers, my god.
“I don’t get it, Leicester City did it and won the league. Defenders can’t defend against two strikers, they’re just not used to it.

“At Leicester, [Riyad] Mahrez just kept on coming forwards and then with [Jamie] Vardy over the top, they just battered everyone.
“It’s not rocket science.
“I’d love to see two strikers at the London Stadium, I’d love to see two strikers back in the team.”
In other West Ham news, the Irons want to sign this ‘Brilliant’ young attacker who shone on Sky Sports on the weekend.
