Frank McAvennie calls for action after Ryan Fredericks injured in West Ham 1-0 win v Manchester United
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie suggests David Moyes will be unhappy after West Ham defender Ryan Fredericks suffered an injury at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
Fredericks, 28, claimed an assist for what turned out to be a winning Manuel Lanzini goal against Manchester United in the League Cup last night, but that proved to be his undoing as he was injured in the process.
He was eventually forced off in the 17th minute as a result of taking a trip down the sloping grass behind Dean Henderson’s goal for Lanzini’s ninth-minute strike.

Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler was unhappy about it. He said: “I cannot understand why clubs are allowed, at this level of the game, to do that.
“We had a player, I think it was Rob Holding of Arsenal at this very ground, who was out for months and months with that kind of situation.”
Ex-Irons attacker McAvennie suggests there needs to be some sort of intervention to prevent a similar injury from occurring again.

“I would think so,” McAvennie said when asked by West Ham Zone if Irons boss Moyes would be left feeling aggrieved.
“It’s something they’ve got to look at, surely for the Manchester United players as well.
“It’s a wee bit strange, but they don’t seem to do anything about it.”
In other West Ham news, Martin Tyler was furious with Manchester United after an incident involving an Irons player on Wednesday.
