Frank McAvennie: Benrahma has stepped it up at West Ham since Moyes had a go at him
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Said Benrahma has improved his performances for West Ham since David Moyes criticised his ball retention, according to Frank McAvennie.
Benrahma, 26, has scored two goals and supplied two assists in each of his first two Premier League appearances this season to help the Hammers reach the top of the table.
McAvennie claims Moyes wasn’t happy with Benrahma losing possession in dangerous areas last season, which is why he didn’t played as much as he would have hoped.

However, the former striker feels the Algeria international has improved his game after the talking to by Moyes.
Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “He’s such a wonderful talent.
“He’s come in since last year since getting dropped and I believe David Moyes had a go at him.
“What he was doing, he was losing the ball in the wrong places.
“David didn’t want to take his natural ability away from him but was saying, ‘you’ve got to be clever, if you have people behind you, taken someone in and if you lose it, we’re covered’.
“He works well in this side, he’s very rarely losing the ball now at all.
“I’m impressed with him and this is a wonderful side.”

Benrahma has been in sensational form this season, proving that it was a good piece of business when West Ham signed him from Brentford last year.
Next up for the Hammers is a home clash against Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday.
Benrahma is definitely someone to keep an eye on at that game.
In other West Ham news, David Gold was blown away by this player’s “fantastic” display against Leicester.
