Frank McAvennie backs West Ham pursuit of Joe Worrall
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie is placing his faith in David Moyes to pull off another coup as West Ham links with Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall intensify.
The Sun reported last week [29/05/21] that the Irons had approached the Championship side over a deal for the English central defender.
Forest are reportedly receptive to bids and the 24-year-old is keen to move to the Premier League, with Burnley and Norwich City also circling.
Moyes has enjoyed great success in the transfer market since his reappointment as Irons boss in December 2019, and McAvennie has backed him to achieve similar results this summer.
Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “These boys in the Championship fight for their life. I’m not going to compete with Moyes when it comes to that because he’s different class, he’s good at picking players from there that’s for sure.
“Long may it continue, if we can get hold of him then great.
“Moyes will know who to pick, that’s for sure.”
Moyes has shown that he is not afraid to look to the Championship for new recruits, plucking Said Benrahma, Jarrod Bowen and Craig Dawson from there in 2020.
Worrall made 31 Championship appearances last season and ranked 11th for shots blocked per 90 minutes (0.78), according to Wyscout.
However, Forest endured another frustrating season in the second-tier as they battled at the bottom end of the table all season, eventually finishing 17th.
In other West Ham news, Jose Mourinho makes key decision as Irons eye summer swoop for 19-year-old history-maker.
