Finance Expert shares transfer verdict after West Ham United sack decision on David Moyes

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive West Ham United columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium...

Dan Plumley has insisted that players and agents will have questions before signing for West Ham United this summer after their sack decision on David Moyes.

Despite being on the verge of the sack numerous times last season, the club have confirmed that Moyes will be sticking around for next season, at least.

The finance expert admitted that questions will be asked about the long-term plans at the London Stadium, but it shouldn’t effect transfers too negatively.

“I think if you’re a player or an agent, you would probably ask the question on what the long-term plan is,” he exclusively told West Ham Zone.

“I also think that is very easy to say, with a lot of contracts nowadays done on rolling basis, you may see one-year extensions and clubs reviewing performance year-on-year, which may be the play for West Ham in this regard.

It may be a clean break at some point, as a player, you will probably ask those questions, but the wider appeal of West Ham now, they can offer players European football and that ticks a box for a lot of players.

So, I think there is a lot of factors that come into transfers, from a player in point of view, so while there may still be questions around manager contract length, there are also other factors that may draw players in.

It is a mix of factors, and there are natural times for squads to be shaken up.

After winning the Europa Conference League, Moyes deserves the chance for another year at the club and will be hoping for similar success again.

There may be questions over whether or not another £100million-plus spend will be sanctioned though, and that is something the board will need to answer after their West Ham sack decision.
