Finance Expert reacts to added West Ham United costs as new agreement emerges
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive West Ham United columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium...
Dan Plumley has insisted that additional matchday revenue from expanding the London Stadium would pay for any extra rent needed towards LLDC.
The Daily Mail reported that an informal agreement was in place to expand the stadium by 5,500 seats, something which would increase the annual rent.
The finance expert admitted the expansion could bag both parties an extra £9.5million-a-season, something which would make additional rent no concern.

“Even if you go back to those numbers that the extra number of seats could generate, even on conservative estimates,” he exclusively told West Ham Zone.
“If it is £200,000 extra on rent for each season, over two years, one matchday alone will pay for that cost of two years’ worth of rent so they’re the kind of numbers you’re working on.

“Irrespective of the fact they will have to give some of it away based on the deal, it’s still a good deal for sure.”
The informal agreement could be formalised over the next couple of years and there are hopes that the added seats could be finalised in time for the 2026-27 season in the Premier League.
Extra works include catering and toilet facility upgrades, with the annual rent being raised to £3.7million for the Hammers to continue at the London Stadium.
