Finance Expert backs Tim Steidten appointment in West Ham United transfer verdict
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive West Ham United columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium...
Dan Plumley has backed the appointment of Tim Steidten by West Ham as they look to strengthen their position on and off the field.
The German has been confirmed and will now have the money collected from the sale of Declan Rice to help David Moyes reshape his squad.
Following his job at Bayer Leverkusen, Plumley believes Steidten will be able to find “diamonds” in the rough as well as looking at his home country of Germany.

“Looking at his track record, he obviously knows the German market very well,” he exclusively told West Ham Zone.
“He has brought players in from elsewhere and the credentials are there to see.
“I think he’s a really good appointment for West Ham on paper, Leverkusen have never finished outside the top six since he has been there.
“That’s a decent achievement to have that on his record, and that is where he is a good fit for where West Ham want to go, pushing for European football and the success they have had. It’s one of those where it is a data-driven approach to recruitment, it’s smart thinking and looking for diamonds in the rough.
“You can see the appeal and he is looking for a new challenge. You do expect to look at some of the players he has bought in the past or some he knows from the German leagues, but also, he has a portfolio to look elsewhere too.”

After a year of hit-and-miss transfers at the London Stadium, Moyes will be hoping that Steidten can come in and find some real treasures in the market.
Let’s hope his first summer ends with a bang.
