Exclusive: West Ham ‘open to offers for Fullkrug’, money to be used on replacement

Niclas Fullkrug could be deemed surplus to requirements at West Ham this summer.

The German forward was signed last summer but has failed to have the required impact under Julen Lopetegui and then Graham Potter.

The 32-year-old struggled with injuries and featured just 18 times in the Premier League as a result, scoring three goals and notching two assists.

Fullkrug exit possible at West Ham

The Hammers are in the market for a new striker in the transfer window and have been linked with Brondby star Mathias Kvistgaarden most recently.

That could leave Fullkrug in danger of an exit, with the Irons reportedly willing to sanction a deal to get rid of the injury-plagued star.

Iconic commentator Ian Darke believes that they may decide to cut their losses and sell the former Borussia Dortmund star.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, he said: “I would say they would probably be open to offers, if they got the right offer or an offer to get their money back, they might cash in and spend the money elsewhere.

“I mean he was injured for most of the season, so I don’t think they ever saw the best out of him.

“It just looks a bit of an ill-fated move, Potter is not convinced about him, I think the business where he called the team rubbish, has not helped.

“I think a lot of the fans appreciated it, I think the fans thought he was asked a question and he just gave a pretty honest answer, because that is mostly what they thought of the way West Ham played throughout the season.

“For one reason or the other it is not working out, I do think if the right offer came along, and it might, they could let him go.”

West Ham could sell Fullkrug to raise funds

The London Stadium outfit reportedly need to sell to buy if they are to hand Potter the rebuild that he needs this summer.

They are targeting several positions, with Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher and Southampton defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis high on their list.

Fullkrug may need to be sacrificed in order to complete those signings and considering his limited return, an exit makes sense for both parties.
