Exclusive: McAvennie raves about West Ham trio signed in 2020

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie is delighted by what he’s seen from David Moyes’ signings at West Ham in 2020 with Jarrod Bowen, Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal all impressing in the East End.

Soucek, 25, scored his sixth and seventh goals of the Premier League season on Tuesday night as the Irons won 3-2 away at Crystal Palace to move themselves up to fourth in the table.

Bowen, 24, also got himself back among the goals last week in the 2-1 win against West Ham before assisting Craig Dawson’s goal at Selhurst on Tuesday.

West Ham

McAvennie has been waxing lyrical about Bowen and the Czech duo amid West Ham’s stunning run of form.

“Bowen is a good player and was David Moyes’ first signing. He’s done ever so well,” McAvennie told West Ham Zone.

“David’s also bought Coufal at the back. You’ve got to respect what it is, these boys are not in from the chairman, they came from Moyes.

“Bowen, Soucek, Coufal. That’s three players that are stand-outs.

“If that doesn’t show the board that he knows what kind of player he wants, then you’ve got to give him the reigns to buy his own players now.”

West Ham

Moyes has done an incredible job in his second spell in charge of West Ham.

In just over a year and a half, the ex-Manchester United boss has managed to win us survival and turn us in a team that currently sits in the top four spots.

Moyes has turned us from a potential Championship team into serious contenders for European qualification and all he’s done is add a few players in key areas.

On top of Soucek, Coufal and Bowen, a lot has to be said about Dawson too.

He was relegated with both West Brom and Watford prior to joining the Irons on loan in the summer so there were some reservations.

But the ex-Baggies defender has bolstered up our defence brilliantly and he thoroughly deserved that goal against Palace on Tuesday.

In other West Ham news, the Irons have made an approach to sign Jesse Lingard on loan.
