Exclusive: McAvennie questions West Ham future of Lukasz Fabianski amid contract talks

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie has questioned the future of West Ham United goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski as the wait for a contract renewal continues.

David Moyes has admitted that the Irons aren’t prioritising new contracts at the London Stadium, with the keeper and Michail Antonio in the last year of their deals.

Fabianski has spoken out to the Polish media, admitting that he has held positive talks, but a renewal has yet to be announced by the club.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said, “Unless they have somebody else in mind.

“He’s done very well, I’m sure David will have spoken to him, whether he’s not happy with what they’ve offered him, I don’t know.

“I don’t know why it’s not been done yet if he wants to leave, but again, if he’s wanting to move on, he’s doing very well because he’s not letting it affect the team. I’d hate to see him run down his contract.”

Fabianski has admitted that he has entered talks with the club, and appears more than happy to remain at the London Stadium.

The Polish international has picked up an injury concern in the past week, withdrawing from the starting XI during the warm-up against Everton on Friday.

Should that be a serious blow, it could change the mind of the club in regards to how this contract situation plays out.

Hopefully, Fabianski will be back playing and with a new contract agreed when the Premier League returns after FA Cup duties next weekend.
