Exclusive: McAvennie hails transfer approach of Moyes & West Ham, makes European claim

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie has hailed David Moyes and West Ham United for their approach in the transfer market since he arrived.

Jarrod Bowen, Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal have all transformed the fortunes of the Hammers with their impressive performances.

McAvennie believes that Moyes’ extra homework has benefitted the Irons, and put them in a position to challenge for European football this season.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said, “Bowen has been a great signing.

“David Moyes has brought some decent players in. Him, Soucek, the boy Coufal. Who would have heard of Soucek and Coufal?

“Obviously, David has done his own homework on that and it’s good – that’s three players he has brought in. Benrahma too, he’s a talented player.

“He’s got a squad of players now who could challenge for Europe, and I’m delighted with that.”

Moyes has certainly transformed the Hammers after his first disastrous spell at the London Stadium, which saw the likes of Jordan Hugill arrive.

Coufal and Soucek have been phenomenal, and have spearheaded this revival after arriving from the Czech Republic in the past year.

Out of players who have started 10 or more games this season, Soucek tops the WhoScored player ratings, with Declan Rice the only one above Coufal.

Add the likes of Said Benrahma and the surprisingly superb Craig Dawson, and why can’t the Irons realistically target a European spot?
