Exclusive: Frank McAvennie wants West Ham to sign Tammy Abraham
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie has backed West Ham United to make a move for Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham in the summer.
The Daily Star have recently reported that the England international is at the top of the Irons’ shortlist after stalling on a new contract at Stamford Bridge.
McAvennie believes that the Hammers “desperately” need another striker alongside Michail Antonio, who is still picking up consistent injury problems.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said, “I think he is a decent player.
“Sometimes you look at him and you think he isn’t happy there, obviously he isn’t getting game time, I think he’d do well with Antonio.
“I think that could work. He’s a big lad, he’s young and hungry, I think that could be a great signing. They need another striker.
“Antonio is injured quite a lot, when he’s playing, it’s full-on, so they desperately need another striker.”

With Thomas Tuchel coming in at Chelsea, opportunities have really dried up for Abraham in the final third at Stamford Bridge.
Timo Werner and Olivier Giroud have been preferred, and the likes of Kai Havertz maybe the third choice to step into the limelight.
The striker has a better minute per non-penalty goal rate than the likes of Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah since the start of last season and would be a great option for the Irons.
Chelsea look likely for Champions League football again, and should the Hammers want to attract this sort of player, European football may be vital.
