Exclusive: Frank McAvennie shares verdict on West Ham exit of Winston Reid
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie has suggested that the West Ham United career of Winston Reid is over after his deadline day switch to Brentford.
The New Zealand veteran sealed a loan switch to the Championship club after returning from his spell in America and the MLS.
McAvennie believes that he could find his new level in the second-tier, and his wages being covered means it’s another bonus for the Hammers.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said, “I don’t know what he’s been up too.
“I don’t think he’ll get back in, I don’t think so. I think at that age, I think he could play in the Championship quite easily and make a good living down there.
“If he’s still getting paid away from West Ham then it’s not a problem.”
Reid clearly doesn’t have much of a future at the London Stadium.
David Moyes has added Craig Dawson to his defence this season, and he has been phenomenal, especially in recent weeks.
The 32-year-old will go down as a modern-era icon for the Irons, having made 223 appearances, and it was only right that he was allowed to go and play football.
Reid has already featured for Brentford, and we will be keeping a close eye on his progress between now and the end of the season.
