Exclusive: Frank McAvennie casts doubt on ‘luxury’ West Ham move for Christian Eriksen

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie has cast doubt over West Ham United making a move for Inter Milan playmaker Christian Eriksen in the January window.

Sky Sports have reported that Inter have offered the Danish international to the Hammers with a potential switch to the London Stadium on the cards.

Inter chief, Giuseppe Marotta has made it clear that Eriksen is all-but-certain to leave the San Siro this month after his terrible start to life in Italy.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said, “He’s a luxury.

“I don’t know if he’s a David Moyes type of player. He’d certainly bring something to them, but they’ve got Lanzini who can do that and he’s not getting in the team.

“He likes his workers, David, he’s got everyone all together and they look a close-knit group now.”

McAvennie is right to question this one.

There are a number of issues with this deal, including the fee, Eriksen’s wages, and if he would even want to move to the London Stadium from Inter.

Eriksen has only made nine appearances in Serie A this season since sealing his exit from Spurs, scoring no goals and delivering zero assists from midfield.

Moyes will be wanting to give Said Benrahma more time to prove himself in that creative role, and still has £25million to pay for him in the summer, so this one is more than unlikely this month.
