Doctor issues Nayef Aguerd scare ahead of West Ham United win v Burnley
We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at West Ham...
West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd will have undergone checks for mild traumatic brain injury ahead of the Burnley game, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The Hammers ended up winning the game 2-1 on 24 November and the Morocco international played the full 90 minutes despite being a fitness doubt due to a concussion.
Clubs today take these concerns seriously and he may even have faced a slightly different training routine in the build up to the game.

Speaking exclusively with West Ham Zone, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and Sports Scientist, said:
“No concussion is ‘mere’, unfortunately.
“It’s known as a mild traumatic brain injury. It will depend on how he responds to intensity in training and if any symptoms come up.
“For example, Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard missed two games following a concussion.
“The fact that Aguerd played the game on Saturday will mean that he cleared concussion checks.”

Concussions can have adverse effects on footballers and some symptoms include headaches, dizziness, and confusion, while long-term consequences may involve memory issues, mood swings, and increased risk of neurodegenerative conditions.
Prolonged or untreated concussions may lead to post-concussion syndrome, hindering a footballer’s ability to train, play and maintain consistent form.
The Hammers will be delighted that Aguerd was back in no time and ready to play 90 minutes against a tricky Burnley side.
In other West Ham news, a BBC pundit has admitted that he’ll come out of retirement just to play with a West Ham star after what he did recently.
