David Sullivan to anger West Ham United fans very soon as Callum Hudson-Odoi transfer news emerges
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
David Sullivan needs to crack on with signing players for West Ham if he wants to avoid annoying the fanbase, according to Frank McAvennie.
While the Irons are still waiting for Declan Rice’s £105million move to Arsenal to be completed, nothing has really happened on the transfer front in terms of incoming deals.
Callum Hudson-Odoi has been linked with a move to the London Stadium recently with CBS journalist Ben Jacobs reporting on Twitter (5 July) that the £120,000-a-week winger wants to quit Chelsea in order to get first-team football elsewhere.

However, McAvennie would rather see West Ham sign Harvey Barnes from Leicester City.
On 9 June, The Guardian reported that he’s valued at £40million by Leicester, a fee that McAvennie wouldn’t mind seeing his former club pay for the winger.
“I would rather have Barnes than Hudson-Odoi if they’re going after a winger,” McAvennie told West Ham Zone. “£40million for Barnes? I think that would be a good deal.
“They’ve got to start making signings because the fans won’t be happy with David Sullivan.
“Get Barnes in and get [Scott] McTominay in. He would work well with [Lucas] Paqueta and [Tomas] Soucek in the midfield because he’s that kind of player.

“I also wanted Kalvin Phillips, but he basically says he wants to stay and fight for his place at Manchester City. He’ll be sitting on his backside not getting a game – or when he does get a game it will be meaningless.”
Unfortunately for West Ham – and for McAvennie – it looks as though Barnes is on his way to Newcastle United.
Fabrizio Romano reported on Sunday (9 July) that a deal could be completed for the Magpies to sign the England international in the next 10 days.
In other West Ham news, a £35million twist has emerged in the Hammers’ bid to complete this defensive signing.
