David Moyes slammed after what happened in West Ham United loss v Brentford
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie doesn’t agree with West Ham utilising a counter-attacking approach under manager David Moyes.
The verdict comes after the Hammers lost 3-2 to Thomas Frank’s Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday (4 November).
Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen netted for the visitors, but it wasn’t enough to take any points home as Neal Maupay, a Konstantinos Mavropanos own goal and Nathan Collins secured a win for the hosts.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “I don’t think we’ve got enough to suck up and sit in and let teams attack us all the time, I don’t agree with that.
“I think we’re a really good team with really good players, and we don’t need to counter-attack, I keep saying it, we don’t have to. We’ve got players that can keep the ball for fun.
“When you score two goals away from home, you don’t want to get beat. And if we let them come onto us then it serves us right.
“We are defending too much, and if you sit back and let teams like Brentford attack you, they are going to score, they are a decent team.”

The defeat at the Gtech Community Stadium leaves the East London club sitting in 12th place in the Premier League table.
Moyes’s side have now won just four of their 11 league games so far, drawing twice and losing the other five. Up next in the competition is a meeting with Nottingham Forest at the London Stadium on Sunday (12 November).
In other West Ham news, club scouts have been joined by Arsenal and Tottenham in the pursuit of a 10-goal international striker.
