David Moyes plea issued to West Ham United fans before Luton Town game

Frank McAvennie has pleaded with West Ham United fans to give David Moyes “the send-off he deserves” in his final home game.

The Hammers host Luton Town on Saturday (11 May) in their last home match of the season, which will be Moyes’ final game at London Stadium as Hammers boss.

And McAvennie – speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone – is hopeful that the Scotsman will receive the farewell he has earned.

“My message to the fans is just, give him the send-off he deserves,” McAvennie said.

No matter what you thought of him, no matter if you want him out the door – brilliant, he’s gone. Still give him a send-off, he gave us a trophy, you know?”

West Ham United to bid David Moyes a fond farewell

Moyes’ achievements at West Ham have been plentiful.

He helped the club stave off relegation twice – once in his first spell and again after rejoining in 2019 – and delivered three consecutive seasons of European football immediately afterward.

The two Europa League campaigns saw the club reach the semi-finals and the quarter-finals – but sandwiched in between was the crowning moment as the Hammers lifted the Europa Conference League trophy after beating Fiorentina 2-1 in the final, courtesy of a late Jarrod Bowen strike.

That piece of silverware was the club’s first in over four decades and their first European trophy in almost 60 years.

Moyes will surely be given the fond farewell he has earned at London Stadium when the Hammers take on Luton.
