David Moyes makes West Ham United resignation decision, pundit completely surprised

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium

Frank McAvennie is happy to see David Moyes deciding against quitting West Ham after the Europa Conference League victory over Fiorentina.

McAvennie admits he expected Moyes to quit the London Stadium after the win in Prague but ESPN reported on 12 June that the Scotsman is now going to stay put for next season.

Moyes was under a lot of pressure at various stages of last season with West Ham finding themselves in a relation battle for large spells of the campaign.

Some sections of fans were very vocal in wanting David Sullivan and co to sack the former Everton manager. However, he stayed and won the club’s first major trophy in 40 years.

McAvennie admits Moyes’ football wasn’t easy on the eye but he cannot argue with the results his fellow Scot has achieved in East London.

“It seems like they’re going to keep him but I thought he was going to walk after the cup final.

“David’s got to get 15 games [next season],” McAvennie told West Ham Zone.

It’s a moment that’s etched in everyone’s memory now so he’ll be seen as up there with the greats like John Lyall and all that. I’m happy with that but I don’t know where he’s going to go.

I’m delighted for David but his football was terrible at the end of the season. He knows it’s a results-based business. If you don’t play good football but win, no one blinks. But they were getting beaten and drawing and things like that.

But I’m delighted to see him staying because he loves it down there, he loves the club.

He’s got to get players in now and he’s got a lot of kids coming through now.

The Premier League is going to be so hard now.”
