David Moyes doesn’t want Danny Ings at West Ham United as Crystal Palace transfer prediction emerges
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie believes Danny Ings could yet remain at West Ham United until the summer transfer window despite the number of rumours surrounding his future.
The former Southampton striker has been linked with a move away from the club this month, given his limited minutes under David Moyes this season with Wolves (John Percy, 6 January) and Crystal Palace both interested in his services [Dharmesh Sheth, 10 January].
TEAMtalk reported on 10 January that Wolves may look to test the resolve of the Hammers with a January bid for the 70-goal Premier League goalscorer despite David Moyes currently suffering from an injury crisis with Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta joining Michail Antonio on the sidelines.
Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “If he’s gonna get a game for Crystal Palace and also Roy Hodgson will know him a lot so I wouldn’t have a problem with him going.
“He’ll probably rediscover his best form there but then West Ham fans will be asking ‘What happened?’
“The way Moyes plays, he’s not that mould of player.
“Players like Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio are in that mould because they can come short to receive passes and then spin out wide, Ings simply can’t do that.
“He’s a pure striker and I don’t think Moyes wants that goal-hanger should we say. He wants a forward who can contribute to all phases of his team’s play.
“Ings doesn’t want to be doing his football outside the box, he wants to be in and around the penalty area scoring goals, but I’m afraid that leaves West Ham short.
“That miss against Bristol City at the London Stadium and in the replay, if he had been playing every week, he would have buried those chances. So he needs to be playing.

“But right now, it’s a difficult situation with Antonio out injured and that could force Moyes to keep him until January at least.
“Unless a decent offer comes in for him this month, I can’t see West Ham letting him go before the transfer deadline.”
