David Moyes behind-the-scenes West Ham United agreement mooted amid transfer issues

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie believes there David Moyes would be “mad” to walk away from West Ham amid a reported disagreement behind the scenes at the club.

The manager could resign over the ongoing transfer situation at the London Stadium, according to journalist Ben Jacobs (8 August).

The journalist played down claims of a feud between Moyes and new technical director Tim Steidten, but claimed that the former could leave before his contract ends next summer if further transfer issues arise.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “He will still be manager. Moyes won’t walk away, he’d be mad to do that now.

“He’ll stand his ground, it’s a job, he’s a Scotsman, he’ll argue. He’s bringing in players now.

“I think he’s probably had a talk behind the scenes and they’ve come to some sort of arrangement with transfers, because it wasn’t good for the fans, it wasn’t good for anyone connected to West Ham.”

The East London club lost star man and club captain Declan Rice earlier this summer, with the midfielder moving to Arsenal for £105million.

And after much worry among supporters, the Hammers have now finally found a replacement, bringing in Edson Alvarez from Ajax on a five-year deal, as per the official club website.
