Danny Ings January transfer mooted at West Ham amid Julen Lopetegui Wolves admission
Dan Bardell believes Danny Ings must impress at West Ham to earn a January transfer despite Julen Lopetegui rating him as a player.
The striker came on for the Hammers and scored a last-gasp equaliser against Fulham, his first goal since 10 March against Burnley.
This just shows how difficult his spell at the London Stadium has been since joining from Aston Villa in a deal worth £15million in January 2023 [BBC Sport].
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell thinks that the Englishman will try and earn himself a move away despite being liked by the manager.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Bardell said: “He’s almost a forgotten man, Danny Ings, but Lopetegui has got history with him.
“He tried to sign him at Wolves and was keen on bringing him in so he clearly rates him as a player. It has been a really bad move for Ings, it’s just not worked out at all for either party.
“All he can do is make the most of any opportunities that he’s given and he did that against Fulham with a really important goal.
“Even if he can make himself a sort of super sub that could stand him in good stead to look at a move in January.“
Danny Ings could force West Ham transfer in January
The 32-year-old has struggled to score consistently ever since leaving Southampton in shocking circumstances in 2021.
This was the case at Aston Villa and has certainly been the case at the London Stadium with just five goals in over 50 appearances for the club.
There was a lot to appreciate about Ings’ goal against the Cottagers but these moments of quality have been few and far between in claret and blue.
His game time has only been lessened by Niclas Fullkrug coming in from Borussia Dortmund and so a move away appears to make sense.
In other West Ham news, a Jean-Clair Todibo admission has been shared ahead of the upcoming Liverpool clash.
