Dan Plumley shares how Brexit may hit West Ham United as Viborg showdown haunted
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive West Ham United columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium...
Dan Plumley has insisted that West Ham United and other clubs have had to be reactive to “tricky” situations created by Brexit in recent years.
The finance expert has reacted after the Europa League showdown with Viborg has been haunted, with two players failing to obtain visas to play in the first leg.
Plumley admitted that it has been extra pressure on new transfers, as well as added finances with operational and resource costs going up.

“I think we are still finding our way with it,” he exclusively told West Ham Zone.
“We don’t what is happening with these links to it although but I think the clubs are coping as well as they can do. It was going to be you win some and you lose some with this, based on the players you’ve got and the players you want to bring in and those whom you want to tie down to contracts.
“It’s really tricky, it will have increased cost and whether that is financial, operational or resource costs but a lot of things will need to have been put in place.
“It puts that extra pressure on, but the overriding thing is when these things pop up, we’ll deal with it the best we can now and see what happens the next time it happens.”

Reactive.
David Gold and David Sullivan appear to have reacted well with more money than ever being spent.
With Lucas Paqueta links now intensifying, our spending power is only increasing despite potential worries regarding Brexit and what it can do.
Let’s be honest though, hopefully, Viborg can have no excuses and the Irons can go across to Denmark on Thursday evening [25 August] and leave no question marks over going through to the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Time to get the job done and leave no doubts.
