Crysencio Summerville set for first Premier League start this season in West Ham United v Chelsea

Crysencio Summerville deserves a first Premier League start this season as West Ham face Chelsea on Saturday (21 September), Frank McAvennie has said.

The winger joined the Hammers from Leeds United for £25million this summer but has only played 66 minutes in the Premier League since, with 74 minutes coming in the EFL Cup.

Despite this, Summerville impressed much of the fanbase when coming on as a second-half substitute during the 1-1 draw with Fulham, and now he could be in line for his full league debut against the Blues.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “With midfielders and wingers now, we’ve got so many options. When you come off the bench, you’ve just got to do your best and hope you’ve done enough. Do I think the boy deserves to start? Of course, I do.

“But the manager sees him every day in training, we only see him for 90 minutes or 45 minutes, or even just 30 minutes. I don’t think he’s far away from a starting position. Some players just need time to settle in.

“He’s still learning, too, having just come from the Championship. The Premier League is a different ball game, so he’ll be wanting to save him, bringing him in gradually. I think he’ll be immense for the team.”

Crysencio Summerville to start in West Ham United v Chelsea?

The 22-year-old sensation experienced a stellar campaign at Elland Road last season as the Whites missed out on promotion back to the Premier League, allowing West Ham to snap him up on a cheap deal.

He notched 19 goals and nine assists in 43 Championship appearances, showcasing his talent against some very tough opposition, and it is difficult to argue he cannot handle Premier League opposition.

While some may not yet be convinced of his abilities in the top tier of English football, he did notch four goals and two assists during Leeds’ relegation season, even scoring against Liverpool and Tottenham.

In other West Ham news, Julen Lopetegui must keep the faith in an out-of-form star, Chelsea cannot handle him.
