Winner named in race for West Ham United-linked ace Youssef En-Nesyri
West Ham United need attacking reinforcement this summer, particularly in the number nine role.
Danny Ings and Michail Antonio are the two strikers that the Hammers currently have within their ranks and whilst both were strong in their prime, their form was far from good last season.
The pair failed to score 10 goals between them last season despite being the focal points of the Hammers’ attack when called upon.
With this in mind and the fact that Antonio could well be on his way out of the club this summer, a number nine should be at the top of Julen Lopetegui’s priority list.
Across the window thus far this has seemed to be the case. Players such as Tammy Abraham, Ivan Toney, and even Youssef En-Nesyri have been linked with a move [Mundo Deportivo, 3 July] to the London Stadium.
The latter of those mentioned was heavily linked with West Ham at the start of the window as he entered the final year of his contract with Sevilla.
Since then rumours have started to die out in regard to the Hammers’ pursuit but thanks to a new update from Fabrizio Romano, it now seems as if their chase is dead in the water.
West Ham United to turn attention elsewhere in search for a striker
The Italian journalist reported via X on 21 July that Fenerbahce have agreed on a fee in the region of £16.8million for the 20-goal striker and are currently working on En-Nesyri’s personal terms.
Although the Hammers bowing out of the race for En-Nesyri is a blow for the club, there are still plenty of players they can turn their attention towards.
For example, over the last few days Matias Soule has been heavily linked with a transfer to the London Stadium.
The same goes for Alexis Saelemaekers who would also reportedly be available for a fee worth around £16.8million [Calcio Mercato, 21 July].
While neither of the aforementioned players are number nines by trade, each can be deployed there if needed.
There are still plenty of options for Julen Lopetegui and there’s no doubt that we will see attacking reinforcement coming to West Ham soon.
