WHZ Stats: Impressive figures highlight Cresswell’s incredible 20/21 form at West Ham
Aaron Cresswell has been one of West Ham’s star performers this season and stats site Five Yards have produced some impressive figures that highlight just how well he is playing.
Using figures taken from Wyscout, Five Yards list Cresswell as one of the most productive full-backs throughout the entire Premier League.
Combining chances created and defensive duels won, Cresswell ranks very highly among both categories, alongside the likes of James Justin, Tariq Lamptey and Kyle Walker-Peters.
Cresswell’s numbers show the demands placed on the modern-day full-backs, but what makes the former Ipswich man’s figures even more impressive, is the fact he has done a lot of his good work when playing in a back three this season.
Of his 11 Premier League appearances in the 2020/21, he has been utilised as a makeshift central defender in 10 of them, as per Transfermarkt.
His impressive output has not gone unnoticed. According to WhoScored, only Michail Antonio (7.12) and Tomas Soucek (7.19) have outperformed the defender, who has an average match rating of 7.02.
The 30-year-old also leads the way in the West Ham squad for assists, with three to his name so far.
Gary Lineker was among Cresswell’s plaudits earlier this season, suggesting that the defender should be Gareth Southgate’s plans.
While it remains to be seen if that is a realistic option for the experienced defender, it is hard to ignore the incredible form he is displaying this season under Moyes.
In other West Ham news, David Moyes has provided an update on Andriy Yarmolenko ahead of Friday’s game against Leeds United.
