WHZ View: Declan Rice right to praise teammate, West Ham mainstay superb v City

West Ham United continued their unbeaten run in the Premier League on Saturday, holding Manchester City to a 1-1 draw at the London Stadium.

When facing a team such as City, it was pivotal that defensively, the Irons were solid and compact to stop their huge threat in the final third.

Declan Rice was once again phenomenal in midfield, although there were many others who continued to shine for David Moyes.

Rice singled out midfield partner Tomas Soucek for praise, and it’s clear that the Czech international has transformed the Irons since arriving.

“He’s brilliant to play with,” he told the official website.

“He’s a player we definitely needed, with some legs to make the box and obviously get back as well.

“He’s added something to the team, which is brilliant. He gives us an out every time and when he’s popping up in the box, we’ve not really had that over the years. It’s fantastic to play with him.”

Soucek was brilliant once again in the draw with City.

Defensively, the 25-year-old made four clearances as well as completing a single tackle, according to WhoScored.

Jose Mourinho claimed that David Moyes had found his new version of Marouane Fellaini in Soucek, but it is clear to us that he has brought us so much more in midfield.

Rice and Soucek is the perfect partnership in midfield, and they are becoming the base in which Moyes must build his side around.
