WHZ Tactics: West Ham can take advantage of major Manchester City blow

West Ham United are facing another massive test on Saturday as they welcome Manchester City to the London Stadium.

The Irons and David Moyes go into the game with a full-strength side, something that the Citizens don’t have at their disposal.

Pep Guardiola admitted some would return, likely Kevin De Bruyne, but Fernandinho and Gabriel Jesus will miss out in east London.

Fernandinho will be a massive miss for City, with Ruben Dias singing the praises of his new teammate recently.

He told the MEN: “Fernandinho is, without a doubt, a reference for me in the dressing room.”

“It will be a good role model to learn from, so I’ll try to get as many learnings as I can from him.”

The Brazilian has been Guardiola’s go-to man recently when struggling, bringing him off the bench in the past three games in all competitions.

West Ham could really take advantage of his absence on Saturday.

Fernandinho likes to disrupt the opposing midfield and not let them settle or keep pushing forward towards the end of games – something Spurs didn’t do and something that the Irons took advantage of.

Take this example against Arsenal, the Gunners started to push and were unlucky not to equalise in the 1-0 defeat.

If West Ham get on top of City through any stage of the game on Saturday, the absence of Fernandinho could see plenty of space open up.

Moyes will have to manage this game in different time periods because there will be large slots that City dominate.

As soon as his side gets on top, Fernandinho not being there is something the Hammers must take advantage of.
