West Ham United will be furious as Premier League disrespect Declan Rice
West Ham will be furious after midfielder Declan Rice was overlooked in this season’s Premier League Player of the Season awards.
The shortlist has been released and it includes Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joao Cancelo, Kevin de Bruyne, Bukayo Saka, Mo Salah, Son Heung-min, James Ward-Prowse and last but not least Jarrod Bowen.
Make no mistake, it was great to see the Hammer winger on the list – he has had a terrific season but how has he been selected, and Rice hasn’t?
It makes no sense given that the 23-year-old beat the former Hull City ace to the Hammer of the Year award earlier this week.
Take nothing away from Bowen, he has had an excellent season and more than deserves to be nominated but so does the former Chelsea youngster.
Some might argue that he was included in the Premier League Young Player of the Season and that should be enough but so were Alexender-Arnold and Saka.
Is it because they play for two of the more elite clubs in the league instead of West Ham?
With all due respect, it is absolutely farcical that Ward-Prowse has been nominated and the Irons vice-captain hasn’t – it makes no sense at all.
To add insult to injury, David Moyes wasn’t nominated for the Manager of the Season award either after the impressive campaign he has spearheaded at the London Stadium.
What do the pair have to do to be nominated? It is yet another example of the Hammers being disgracefully overlooked despite huge success.
The bottom line is that Rice deserved to be on the shortlist – he has outperformed several of the names included and has singlehandedly carried the Irons at times this season.
