West Ham United still in Jonathan Tah race as Manchester United update shared
Julen Lopetegui could turn attention back to Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah as a potential centre-back option at West Ham United this summer.
While Wolves’ Max Kilman has been added to the defensive ranks, one signing is unlikely to solve the centre-back issues that plagued the Hammers’ 2023/24 season.
Nayef Aguerd, Kurt Zouma and Konstantinos Mavropanos all received their fair share of criticism throughout the campaign, with all being linked with exits this summer. Angelo Ogbonna, meanwhile, has already left.
According to HITC [25 March], scouts from the London Stadium had been sent to watch Tah in action once again during the last campaign with an interest in signing him.
While it was believed Bayern Munich held the keys to the signing [HITC, 11 June], a recent update from Florian Plettenberg would suggest that Tah’s signature is still up for grabs this summer.
West Ham United remain in Jonathan Tah transfer race
The Sky Sports journalist reported via his personal X account on Monday (15 July) that Manchester United have enquired about the 28-year-old, with Bayern yet to reach an agreement with Leverkusen.
While a move to Old Trafford could be tempting for the centre-back, Lopetegui may be able to draw Tah to the London Stadium with the club’s recent European success and new ambitions under his guide.
It is no secret that West Ham are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements, with only Luton Town, Burnley and Sheffield United conceding more goals in the Premier League last term.
The German centre-half is incredibly experienced, boasting almost 400 appearances for Leverkusen since 2015 and becoming a key figure for the German national team in recent years.
If the Irons are serious about securing Tah’s signature, they must move quickly after Man United registered their interest in the player.
In other West Ham news, another transfer twist has emerged as the London Stadium following a “significant” Jonathan David update.
