West Ham United now have perfect chance to hire Sergio Conceicao as news emerges

West Ham United had Porto boss Sergio Conceicao on the list of targets to replace David Moyes but opted to appoint Julen Lopetegui.

Lopetegui is running out of goodwill in East London after an abysmal start to the campaign and is hanging on by a thread with Edin Terzic named as the frontrunner to succeed the Spaniard [Fabrizio Romano].

However, as reported by talkSPORT [5 November] Conceicao could follow fellow countryman Ruben Amorim to the Premier League and could be the more ideal acquisition should Lopetegui be dismissed from his role in East London.

West Ham United could appoint Sergio Conceicao

The 3-0 loss against Nottingham Forest on Saturday [2 November] has become the last straw for Lopetegui at West Ham, anything less than three points against Everton will undoubtedly end his tenure.

David Sullivan must admit he made a catastrophic error in his pursuit of replacing David Moyes, seemingly the club is preparing due diligence to ensure the same mistake is not repeated.

Terzic, of course, led Borussia Dortmund to the Champions League final last term. This achievement alone would send the Hammers faithful into raptures should the Croatian take the reins at the London Stadium.

However, his fifth-place finish in a league in which Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen are viewed as the only true competitors to Bayern Munich leaves a lot to be desired.

Conceicao on the other hand led Porto to three Primeira Liga on his way to claiming 11 major honours in Portugal and could be willing to make the switch to England.

West Ham, Sergio Conceicao

Furthermore, the 49-year-old was seriously considered over Terzic to replace Moyes – the mere fact the former Irons assistant manager is viewed as more attainable does not make him a more viable candidate.

West Ham must get the next managerial appointment correct, the side is only six points above the relegation zone and could be in serious trouble if drastic action is not taken.

Yes, Terzic defied expectations with Dortmund last year however, Conceicao excelled in Portugal for several years and is by far the more attractive option given his extensive track record.
