West Ham United need to axe Konstantinos Mavropanos after what he did v Fulham
West Ham United have had a poor start to their 2024/25 Premier League campaign.
While they’ve managed to get points against the likes of Fulham and Bournemouth, they need to improve their performances against bigger clubs.
Last season the Hammers’ main problem was their defence with the club managing to finish the season with the fourth-worst defensive record in the top flight.
This prompted Julen Lopetegui to invest heavily into his defensive ranks during the summer but he has still failed to stabilise them.
Konstantinos Mavropanos is starting next to newbie Max Kilman is where their problems seem to lie.
The Greek international was one of the key reasons behind the Hammers conceding first against Fulham over the weekend with Tom Rennie even saying that he’s “nowhere near Premier League quality“.
The Spaniard should instead, look towards starting Jean Clair-Todibo in their next Premier League game against Chelsea.

It felt obvious to most West Ham fans during the transfer window that Todibo and Kilman would be their centre-back pairing for the season.
Indeed, the Frenchman has made a couple of cameo appearances in the Premier League and has started a cup tie against Bournemouth in the second round of the Carabao Cup but it still feels as if the defender hasn’t been given a fair shot at a first-team spot.
Sure, on his day Mavropanos can be stellar but after his latest mistake against the Cottagers, it feels only right for Todibo to be given a shot at becoming Kilman’s partner.
The Frenchman is of course still a new arrival to the London Stadium and will have likely taken some time to become accustomed to Lopetegui’s tactics but, after the international break, he should be ready and raring to go.
